CAS-TWAS President's Fellowship Programme (For PhD Candidates from Developing Countries)

According to a new agreement between the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) and the Academy of Sciences for the developing world (TWAS), up to 140 students/scholars per year from the developing world will be sponsored to travel to China for up to four years’ of PhD study and research.

The CAS-TWAS President’s Fellowship Programme provides students/scholars from developing countries with the opportunity to pursue PhDs at University of Chinese Academy of Sciences (UCAS), the University of Science and Technology of China (USTC) and/or institutes of CAS around China.

Application Deadline:  June 15, 2013

• The program has two evaluations each year, one of which is held around the end of April while the other at the end of June, with specific dates to be determined.
• Early applications are preferred.

Facing Media

Facing Media and learning to brew coffee. Both appear simple. I have tried the first recently and haven't tried the second yet. Standing before the journalist, camera and microphone gives a pleasant scene. So i end the sharing of experience here.

Two days of rigorous training was useful and encouraging. Thanks to Andy and Dan of BMS for taking time and patience in ironing our natural talents. Now we are confident to make 20 seconds reports of our years of works.

Dan and Andy see you again in November.

International Women's Day

At IRRI, where i am stationed these precious moments, there was 2 day  fun fare to celebrate International Women's Day. The IWD may be an opportunity to create awareness on the gender related issues in other parts of the world where women consider/find themselves less fortunate than their counterparts. Its right time for the women in IRRI to celebrate the day. At IRRI participation of women is high. In some sectors like Human Resources  the tender gender statistically out number the stronger gender.

Coinciding with the same event Nature.com this week published 3 articles on women. This are good articles to read over breakfast coffee.
